Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a solution-focused, bespoke approach to therapy that works with the unique landscape of your mind — not just the story you tell, but the energy and imprint the experience has left behind.
I use it to provide a safe space for women to reflect on, process, and integrate their birth experience, however it unfolded. It can also be a way of honouring birth as a rite of passage, physically, emotionally and energetically.
Each session is tailored to your individual needs. Some of the approaches I draw on include:
3-Step Rewind – a gentle approach that may support you in revisiting difficult memories with more steadiness and less overwhelm. Some women find it helps them feel less activated when thinking or talking about their birth experience.
There is space for you to share your story with me if you wish, but it is not necessary if you would prefer not to.
Visualisation – uses guided imagery to help you access a sense of safety, calm, or resolution that may not have been present during the birth itself. Some women find it helps to reimagine or complete moments that felt rushed, frightening, or out of their control.
Parts work – recognises that different parts of you may hold different feelings about your birth — for example, a part that feels relief, and a part that still feels shaken or unheard. It creates space to listen to and integrate these parts, rather than pushing any of them aside.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) – combines gentle tapping on specific points of the body with spoken acknowledgment of what you're feeling, easing the intensity of difficult memories. Some women find it reduces the anxiety or distress connected to their birth experience.

The postnatal recovery massage is inspired by the traditional postnatal ritual known as closing the bones.
Closing the bones is rooted in Mexican and South American heritage, but versions of it exist on all continents.
Similarly to the closing the bones ceremony, the postnatal recovery massage that I offer, uses rebozo shawls to gently rock and bind the body, alongside an extensive massage of the abdomen, hips, waist, ribs, chest, shoulders and arms. It's designed to help you return to your centre — physically and energetically — after the seismic shift of birth.
It is adapted to take place on a massage table rather than on a mat on the floor.
What does closing the bones do?
A closing the bones massage supports healing by providing gentle movement in the joints, muscles, tissues and fluids. It provides much-needed space to simply rest, be held, and to let emotions be honoured, witnessed and released. It provides a sense of closure, and brings the energy back to the mother.
This ritual provides a space for physical nurturing, but also — maybe more importantly — holds space for whatever needs to be expressed, witnessed and released. It is different for every person, depending on what they have experienced. For some it is a joyful honouring; for others, it is a space to acknowledge and let go of difficult emotions.
Physical aspects
Very early post birth, it can speed up the healing process. When the uterus is still high in the abdomen and the internal organs are still working their way down
Emotional aspects
People often experience big emotional releases during the ritual. It can help whatever emotion or pain was held to come out
Spiritual/energetic aspects
It can help move energy that is stuck, providing very deep healing
Loss, and baby loss
It can be extremely helpful in integrating a loss, particularly perinatal loss
